CHOOSE AMONG DIFFERENT ARCHITECUTURAL GUIDED TOURS IN ØRESTAD 2026
Guided architecture tours of Ørestad focusing on iconic architecture, sustainable urban development and circular construction
Discover Ørestad with Mira M. Cordsen, a local architecture guide who has lived in Ørestad for many years and has been guiding groups through the district since 2012.
Ørestad is one of Copenhagen’s most ambitious urban development projects — a new city district built from scratch on the island of Amager, right next to the protected landscape of Kalvebod Fælled.
On a private guided tour, you will experience some of Copenhagen’s most internationally recognized contemporary architecture, including buildings by Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), 3XN, Jean Nouvel and other leading Danish architects.
But Ørestad is about more than spectacular buildings. It is also a fascinating experiment in urban planning, sustainable architecture, mobility, public space and new ways of living.
TOUR: Circular Architecture & Sustainable Urban Development in Ørestad
Explore some of Copenhagen’s most innovative examples of circular and sustainable architecture. See how architects are reusing building materials, reducing construction waste and creating new ways of living in Ørestad
Meeting point: Vestamager Metrostation at the 'M column'
Duration: app. 2 hours.
Maximum of participants: 20 pax
Explore some of Copenhagen’s most innovative examples of recycled and upcycled architecture.
The tour includes projects such as Ressource Rows, Upcycle Studios, UN17 Village and Eco-Village, where architects and developers have experimented with reusing materials and applying circular principles to housing.
We also visit 8 House by BIG and explore the relationship between the new city and the nearby nature of Kalvebod Fælled.
Along the way, we discuss an important question for the future of architecture:
How can we build new homes and neighbourhoods while using fewer resources and producing less waste?
This tour is particularly relevant for groups interested in sustainable architecture, circular construction, climate-conscious urban development and future cities.
We also visit "Asgers Garden" a garden project under construction which I'm working on.
It will result in a rooftop-farm and garden in app. 2027 on top of a Parking House of 3500 squaremeters.
This is currently my most populaire tour and an important one! - as we talk about how to build circular for the sake of the planet and us!
TOUR: ARCHITECTURE HIGHLIGHS OF ØRESTAD (GROUP BOOKING)
Duration: approx. 3.5 hours
Maximum: 20 participants
Walking tour or bike tour
This is the comprehensive Ørestad architecture tour.
We explore several of the district’s most important architectural landmarks, including:
Tietgenkollegiet
DR Concert Hall by Jean Nouvel
VM Houses by BIG
Mountain Dwellings by BIG
8 House by BIG
Upcycle Studios by Lendager
Ressource Rows by Lendager
Bella Sky
UN17 Village
and new areas that are still under development
The tour tells the story of how Ørestad was planned and developed — from a largely undeveloped area/bare fields to a new urban district with homes, schools, cultural buildings, businesses and public spaces.
We also look at how architecture influences everyday life.
What does it mean to live in a building like 8 House? How can a large residential building function like a village? And how do you create urban life in a completely new neighbourhood?
TOUR 8 House by BIG – Architecture & Social Life
Duration: 1 hour
Maximum: 15 participants
Take a closer look at one of Copenhagen’s most famous contemporary buildings: 8 House by Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG).
Designed as a kind of vertical village, 8 House combines apartments, offices and public spaces in one large building.
Instead of simply moving vertically through the building, residents can move along a long continuous path that winds through the building and connects different levels.
During the walking presentation, we explore the architectural idea behind 8 House and ask:
Can a large apartment building create the social qualities of a village?
This tour is ideal for architecture students, professional groups and visitors who want a deeper understanding of BIG’s approach to architecture and urban life.
Why visit Ørestad?
Ørestad is one of the few places in Copenhagen where you can experience so many different architectural ideas within a relatively small area.
Here, you can see internationally recognized architecture alongside experimental housing, circular construction, public art, new schools, cultural buildings and large-scale urban development.
And just a few minutes away, the city meets the open landscape of Kalvebod Fælled.
This contrast between city and nature is one of the things that makes Ørestad particularly interesting.
Who are the tours for?
The tours are particularly suitable for:
Architecture and design groups
University and high-school groups

Sustainability professionals
Companies and international delegations

A personal perspective on Ørestad
I have lived in Ørestad for many years and have followed the district as it has developed from a new urban experiment into a neighbourhood where thousands of people now live and work.
Since 2012, I have guided hundreds of groups through Copenhagen and Ørestad, focusing on architecture, urban development and sustainable city-making.
My tours combine architecture with the stories behind and lived lifes the buildings — how they were designed, why they look the way they do, and what they tell us about the present, the people living here and question how we actually want to live our lifes!
