Tourdescription:

Cycling through Copenhagen’s harbour districts offers a unique insight into the city’s transformation from industrial port to one of the world’s most liveable waterfront capitals. Following large sections of the scenic harbour route Havneringen, with very few intersections, the tour combines architecture, urban development, sustainability, and public life along Copenhagen’s waterfront.

The tour begins at BLOX by Rem Koolhaas / OMA (or at your hotel), Copenhagen’s resource centre for architecture, design, and the built environment, and continues to the SEB Headquarters by Lundgaard & Tranberg, connected by a dramatic landscape inspired by Nordic forests and glacial formations by SLA.

Along the harbourfront we pass Kalvebod Bølge by Julien De Smedt and the Copenhagen Harbour Bath by Bjarke Ingels Group and PLOT Architects.

Crossing the bicycle bridge to Islands Brygge, we continue past Gemini Residence and onward to Havnevigen, where contemporary waterfront housing, public bathing culture, and urban recreation define the harbourfront experience.

The route then continues south towards Slusen, the historic harbour lock connecting the inner harbour with Køge Bay. Here we experience Copenhagen’s working harbour infrastructure and gain insight into the city’s relationship between maritime industry, flood protection, and urban development.

From here the tour continues through Sluseholmen — often referred to as the “Venice of Copenhagen” — a neighbourhood built on artificial islands connected by canals and bridges. We also pass the striking Metropolis building and continue towards Teglholmen and Sydhavn.

After a short refreshment break, the route follows the harbour northwards through Christianshavn and Papirøen (Paper Island), one of Copenhagen’s newest mixed-use waterfront developments combining housing, culture, hospitality, and public bathing facilities.

The final part of the tour continues to Nordhavn — Copenhagen’s largest and most ambitious waterfront transformation project. Here, former industrial harbour areas are being redeveloped into a new sustainable city district with innovative housing typologies, climate adaptation solutions, public bathing zones, and new forms of mobility and public space. Nordhavn has become an international reference project for long-term waterfront regeneration and liveable urban development.

We also stop at the Royal Playhouse and Opera house

Please note, that you need to be used to riding a bike for this tour
In the innerpart of the city there will be zones, where we will walk with our bikes as the biking traffic can be heavy.

After Nordhavn the guide can take you back to your hotel if wished for.
